Our 35th Anniversary Reunion was a great time! The weekend was full of stories of past times and fun. The golf tournament was very enjoyable. Two teams of brothers came in first and second place! On Friday night ZXZ Alumni sponsored a concert at Old City Hall. Thanks to Artie Bartholomew the event was organized and was successfull in raising some badly needed funds! On Saturday at Bridie Manor, about 25 brothers gathered and listened to music provided by Andy Scott. A raffle was held which also helped raise some funds. A meeting was held at the house and alot was decided. A letter is going out to ZXZ Alumni members informing them of decisions.

It was great seeing everyone again and we thank everyone for their support!

Recap of Reunion - JULY 2002

The weekend started early with arrivals on Thursday night. A few brothers gathered at Old City Hall and the partying began. Later that night a trip to the house was taken and a few more brothers were gathered. There are 2 brothers living at the house this summer. The house condition was a mess as usual and very expected being summertime. Alumni promised to purchase a keg for Saturday night festivities if the house got cleaned up.

Friday was a golf day! – One ZXZ team was in the event. Chris Wood, Rich Coots and Joe Busa teamed up in a scramble format and came in 10 under par. This was a second place finish. Many good times were had on the course except for the rain on the back nine that sobered up the group! After the round, we hung around a few minutes to enjoy the company. Then we decided to visit Marie Demling since her house was right on the way. Marie was the fraternity’s cook for many years in the 70’s and 80’s. She was in good humor as always and is now 79 years of age. Her daughters still live nearby. Then it was on to the next event. Joe was invited to the Presidents reception for his work on the Reunion Committee. While there he ran into Tony Lao who is a founding brother of ZXZ. Just so happens that Tony’s cousin was the recipient of this years Distinguished Alumni Award. After dinner, and watching a sunset we did some bar hoping and went to the BBQ at Fallbrook where many people were. We ended up at the Woodshed where other brothers started to filter in for the weekend.

Saturday was the main event day. Chris and Joe got up early (9am!) to go get a keg of Labatts for the house. Upon delivery they realized that the house was not cleaned yet so they postponed the delivery and brought the keg over to Colemans to keep it cold. The partying began at McCarthys and was a BLAST…. After McCarthys we went to the main reunion event at Colemans. It was a wonderful venue and well attended. Dennis Morriessey, John Toomey, Chris Wood and Joe Busa were in attendance and enjoyed the great band. There were a bunch of Arethusa girls and other sororities in attendance. The food was great, especially dessert. Chris decided to sample Dennis’s prime piece of dessert, snatching it and jamming it down his throat while Dennis looked on in horror!….nice move Chris!!

There was also a wedding in Rochester this weekend. Dan (Weed) McCortney tied the knot and there were brothers in attendance there too. Photos of the event are linked. Mark Botwinick, David Craig, Dave Driscoll, Steve Gray, Mark Wells, Tom Corrigan, Frank Shaub, Jeff Goldman, Bob Rigney celebrated a wonderful wedding…complete with SQUEEZEBOX!

The house finally got cleaned up and the keg was finally delivered and consumed at the house on Saturday night. Much discussion took place on the disposition of the house. There were about 20 brothers in attendance and it was good to see many of the young alumni and current brothers having a good time. A trip to Greene’s and the Woodshed ended a long day of partying.

On Sunday, a traditional Wades breakfast was had and goodbyes were said till next time!
It was a great weekend.

MINI SUMMER REUNION July 2000

July 22nd Weekend - Oswego College Reunion....Although ZXZ is not having a formal reunion, there are going to a number of brothers in town including Rich Coots, Artie Bartholomew and myself. If anyone knows a Psi Phi brother named Tom Jacobson "Froggie"...his memorial will be celebrated on that Sunday. There is also the college golf tourney on Friday the 21st. There are about 10 guys living in the house so I am sure there can easily be a party arranged!.....hope to see you there!

1999 SUMMER REUNION RECAP

To ALL brothers that showed up ..........THANK YOU!!

It's hard to begin to explain how exciting the reunion weekend was for me and I am sure for others. All the work that goes into the newsletter and planning for the weekend comes to fruition when the weekend finally gets here. …and what a weekend it was!……For many of us it started on Thursday night. On my way in I had to stop at the house and get a crest for the reunion table. There were a ton of brothers already there…getting toasted. I explained I had to leave and assured them that I would be around tonight. So I went and got settled into my room and said to myself….OK..here we go!….and went out searching. It didn't take very long. I pulled into the Shed and walked in and heard shouts of BUSA…BUSA…BUSA….there was a crowd of brothers already there and already primed from the goings on at the house during the afternoon and evening. It was great to see people coming early and the spirit of Zeta being exercised. Needless to say, we had our fill of brewskis and stories and somehow made it to the two o'clock closing……..I went back to my room, but heavens knows what went on at the house that night.

Well Friday came real quick and I was one of the people in charge of the golf tournament so I had to get moving quickly, but first had to set up the Welcoming Table in the union. The table looked great with ZXZ Mug favors and pen favors for the taking. Sign in sheets and a comment board to leave messages for anyone. Once this was all set, I got ready for some golf. I couldn't believe how many brothers showed up for this event. We could have held our own tournament. We had 5 foursomes of ZXZ brothers out there. The competition was tough but one of the Zeta teams did win first place. The team of Bob Goerlick, Rich Coots, Mike Meiman and myself came in twelve under par. That was legal too folks….no kidding…It was tough too because only had about six beers for the whole eighteen holes!!!

Friday night was one of the most incredible nights in Oswego I have ever had. You all have a memory of a special night there, well I tell you, the town was painted Columbia blue and navy. There were brothers everywhere. I finally ended up at Old City right near where the Wheel used to be. There was a nice patio to hang out on and I lost count of the number of Coronas that went through my hands. There had to have been sixty brothers there. I can't tell you how many times I laughed. You just can't stand next to Weed too long ya know!!!!! And those Atlanta guys….just too much…..and with Wolf and the BIGMAN in the same town at the same time…..it gets dangerous folks….it was a fuzzy night if you know what I mean.

OK…Saturday rolls around..the sun comes up and you are in Oswego….of course someone was sick…I won't mention who ..(not me)…but thank goodness our party didn't start until one. I got there early to make sure things were going smoothly. The party was behind Lakeside Dining Hall right on the lake. It was a beautiful day, we had a nice big tent and huge sound system and my custom made music tapes. Brothers started showing up early. It was great to see these guys. Many were not there Friday night. My big bro Joe Eddy, Jamo Jones, Frank Brennan, Tony Sansone. Then there were these two brothers I have never met, but they were one of the main reasons we were all there. Tony Lao and Roger Thompson showed up. Two of the Founding brothers of Zeta Chi Zeta Fraternity. These guys were AWESOME. Roger "The Bear" abused me for calling him Mr. Thompson as I shook his hand. He said that he was known way back when for pounding a few beers and let me tell you folks…THAT you can take to the bank. Tony "The Lover" Lao was hysterically funny! He told me a few stories that I can't publish here, but will just say now I know where the idea for the crest came from. He gave me an original ZXZ jacket he had way back, and told me "if this jacket could only talk"…Laughing…..anyway….when I had them both together and the party was in full swing…and there were over 120 people there…I turned to them and said. See what you started!

The photographer gathered us all together to take a big group shot. It was an amazing site to see the all these brothers in one place at one time. The cameras flashed, people made all types of comments. There was a lot of laughter. The beer flowed and the music played. Everyone was having a great time. I happen to be standing with Roger Thompson when the song Magical Mystery Tour came on. A big AWWWWWWW…went across the party and Roger said to me…."Most of these guys don't even know what the first real tour was about"…I can only imagine cause I didn't have time to think! Soon after that the tell tale alarming chords of SQUEEZE BOX played loud through the speakers. Many psyched brothers from the eighties gathered in a big circle…doing what we do best…..what a site!!!…some body was getting tossed. Many of us know all too well and have memories of what that song can do. No body got hurt thank goodness.

The food and drink were excellent, some guys were playing cards, some were throwing a frisbee around and others playing drinking games. We had a raffle and two watches were awarded along with a nice cold six pack of Labatts Max ..right from Canada…heavy duty stuff. The party lasted to past five o'clock and they had to kick us out because of the next event. That was an amazing few hours for me and for many others. Just amazing.

Well, the next thing was to get to the house around 7 PM for a general meeting. I stopped at McCarthys and of course there were brothers there. George O'Brien has passed way for any of you that don't know that, but there is a new owner who is making improvements. We had a beer and then went to the house. Brothers were milling around and we all went into the back yard and gathered in a circle. We tried to have an orderly meeting hearing from many of the current brothers on what the problems were facing the house. The roof is the big concern. It has to be fixed. Discussions covered many topics and I will get into more detail in our newsletter that will be coming out for the fall. All in all, we raise approximately $1,000 for the house. How it's to be spent was voted to be at my discretion. I thank you all for your trust and generosity. The big surprise was next though. (for me anyway) Ray Barnard took the floor and made a big presentation. He talked about the work I have been doing….for over ten years now… and the dedication that has been shown, appreciated and enjoyed by all at this reunion. He presented a plaque to me. It was from the Brotherhood. It reads "The Brothers of Zeta Chi Zeta in celebrating 30 years of fraternity, bestow and honour Joseph Busa - Brother of the Century. We thank you for your unending love of Zeta and for your efforts to keep the brotherhood alive into the next century."

I was a little shocked and was asked to speak. What I said was it a pleasure for me to do this labor of love, but what I do is for nothing unless the brotherhood responds. And this weekend you responded. Thanks to all of you, we are having an incredible weekend here, so thank yourselves for your efforts too!….and with that …of course I chugged a can of Bud …yes Budweiser…Jim Shaw!….It was a wonderful moment for me and I want to thank you all again. If any of you have photos, please send them along!

At that point Pat Murray took over and challeged any other pledge class to a chugging contest. All mayhem broke loose!….and the party continued into the wee hours of the night. The house had two kegs flowing and thanks to Steve Babson a real good sub for munchies! The evening ended up spilling out to the local bars such as the Sting, the Shed and Old City Hall.

What a weekend. I just scratched the surface with this. I hope it gives you some idea of what went on. If you were not there, you missed a good one. I hope this helps fill the gaps. The next one I plan on having will be the 35th reunion. Who wants to mark their calendars?

Strength in Brotherhood,

Joe "Boe" Busa
